CONQUERING YOUR FEARS

Lucas Jonkman once said: “Fight your fears and you’ll be in battle forever. Face your fears and you’ll be free forever.”

Sometimes you have the opportunity to do things that scare you, like jumping out of an airplane. It’s those who can conquer their fears that generally get further in life, compared to those who choose to settle for safety.

Here are five solutions that helped me conquer my fears:

  1. Recognize and rationalize

  • Simply ask yourself what’s the worst that could happen

  1. Make it impossible to say no

  • Make a public declaration, that way you'd be letting people down if you don't go through with it

  1. Take the decision out of your hands

  • When going tandem, there is someone strapped to your back that will help you out

  1. Stop thinking and just jump

  • If you give yourself time to think, you give yourself time to talk yourself out of a great experience

  1. Fake it till you make it

  • Even if you’re terrified, fake being brave and no one will be able to tell
