Skydive Training

There are two methods of skydiving training: Accelerated Freefall (AFF) and Static Line training.
In AFF training, one or two instructors will jump with the student for their first three jumps. During these jumps, the instructor(s) hold onto the student until he deploys his chute. The instructor is there to help the student and guide him to releasing his own chute, but is able to step in and deploy the student’s chute for him, should he be unable to do it himself. After he has proven to his instructor that he can jump well on his own, he’s able to jump without the instructor holding on.
Static Line training is when a static line cord is attached to the student’s deployment bag, which is where the canopy is stored. When the student jumps from the plane, the static line (which is also attached to the plane) pulls the deployment bag out of its container on the jumper’s back, which allows the canopy to fill with air. In this training, the student doesn’t have to actually deploy his own chute.
